Ron Bell - Mosport 2008

Welcome to another facet of Ron Bell’s world – high performance driving!

“I hope to be involved again in 2010 and beyond.  I really, really enjoy racing, but probably even more so, instructing.  I get to experience through students, my very first laps – the excitement, exhilaration and pure joy – again and again and again!”

From Golf to Driving

What got Ron into the sport of High Performance Driving?

First he gave up golf due to a bad neck and back. He had attempted to learn that game for forty-six years. Now he’s hoping to have another four and a half decades so as to learn how to drive.

The New Kid on the Track

It was Saturday July 19th, 2008 at 1147 hrs. Ron sat alone reflecting with his ‘quad venti cappuccino’. Earlier that morning, Ron had visited a 21 year old family member of Wilber’s – “S.H.O. von Ist (as in pig!)”.

For the first time since early June, the car had been released from the Critical and Intensive Care Unit in East York following numerous, delicate and complex surgical procedures, including the transplantation of many of the vital organs from Wilber. In many ways, Wilber lived on through this distant relative.

And so the legend continued.

Wilber: 1989 – 2008

On a fateful day in May 2008 – Wilber’s chapter came to a dramatic close.

Wilber's last stand

The scraping on the Castrol sign is now the only remaining evidence of where Wilber struck the wall - the fatal blow

Throughout the month of June 2008, the above obituary was of course highlighted world wide in many prestigious automotive magazines and journals. It brought deep, deep sadness and remorse to many, many porschephiles – alas a legend perishes.

Please take a moment to collect your thoughts and share your grief with your significant others – healing begins now! The balance of life will still be here when you return from your personal, emotional and spiritual moments of reflection upon the wonderful life and times of Wilber.
